Eating Disorder Group for Teens

When living in a culture obsessed with body size, it can be difficult to feel good about the way you look. Eating disorders caused by unrealistic body image ideals create much larger problems — diminished self-esteem, unhealthy eating and exercise habits, poor hygiene and inability to see one self as a person rather than an idealized image.

Eating Disorder Group for Teens addresses many of the complex emotional issues that can dominate adolescent life and lead to eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia, and compulsive eating. Successful treatment requires an understanding of the manner in which an individual's preoccupation with body image and food can become unhealthy. More often than not, it is the manifestations of an underlying inner conflict.

The goal of this group is to empower the adolescent to become aware of and alter irrational beliefs, inflexible thinking, and destructive behavior in order to develop trust, self-confidence, a more realistic body image with skills for minimizing relapse, promoting physical and emotional health, and taking personal responsibility.
